Good news: There are some changes to BAföG for the winter semester 2024/25:
- Requirements rates will increase by 5 %
- Housing allowance for students who do not live with their parents will be increased from 360 to 380 euros
- Parental allowances have been increased by 5 %
- Mini-jobs are exempt from deductions up to 556 euros.
- More flexibility: In future, sponsored students will be able to apply for a one-off flexibility semester in their Bachelor's or Master's degree course beyond the maximum funding period.
- More time for the change: Funded students will have one semester longer (up to the start of the fifth semester) to change their field of study for an important reason
We are discontinuing our Studierendenwerk loan – however, with the new BAföG amendment, there is a study start-up aid of 1,000 euros for young people under the age of 25 from low-income households receiving social benefits. The study start-up aid is applied for independently of BAföG and does not count towards BAföG. The application is expected to be possible from 2 September 2024 via "BAföG Digital". We will inform you on our website and social media as soon as this is possible.
